Exercises in thought: Earth 4.0 and beyond #1
(musings of an optimistic futurist and Space Tech / blockchain founder)
The convergence of AI, Blockchain, Quantum, Organoid Intelligence, and Human-Tech Interfaces
As we stand on the cusp of technological revolutions, I often find myself drawn to a question: what happens when the most transformative technologies of our time converge? Not just AI or blockchain, or even quantum computing, but a world where these systems intersect with biological computing, organoid intelligence, and human-tech interfaces like Neuralink. What kind of world will we inhabit when these innovations blend seamlessly into our daily lives?
Contrary to the common narrative among blockchain enthusiasts, I don’t believe everything should be decentralised. But decentralisation, when applied to the right systems, holds a unique power. It can eliminate single points of failure and create living, self-sustaining digital ecosystems — structures akin to our own biological systems, like the interplay between our nervous and immune systems. These systems, working in harmony, protect us from threats and optimise our bodies’ potential. Could data ecosystems function in a similar way, offering both resilience and adaptability?
The Road Ahead: A Convergence of Frontiers
The horizon is alive with technological movements that, while powerful on their own, may become world-changing through their convergence. Think of the post-web landscape, as brilliantly outlined by studies like those from Outlier Ventures, where AI, autonomous agents, and blockchain technologies come together. Now, imagine extending that vision further — to include organoid intelligence (wetware), quantum computing, and advanced human-machine interfaces. Together, these technologies could form a user-centric world that transcends the platforms and paradigms we take for granted today.
This road-map hints at the potential emergence of either Artificial General Intelligence or a “Human 2.0.” It’s an exhilarating thought, but one that comes with equal measures of awe and caution. How might such technologies, if misused, harm the world? What unforeseen collateral damage might occur in their development? These are questions we must wrestle with as we move forward.
Curiosity as a Compass
I don’t claim to have all the answers — or the technical expertise to build this future myself. But I am a curious optimist. I’m fascinated by the possibilities this vision of convergence holds to transform the human experience for the better. I want to explore these ideas, not just as a thought exercise, but as an ongoing conversation about what’s possible and what we need to navigate responsibly.
The basis of these thoughts, the technologies I want to explore here and the possible futures elude to perhaps an overdose of science fiction as a younger man but I assure you that horizon scanning on what is already here and what IS coming does present a distinct possibility a new science reality.
The question is around whether or not we wait for others to design this new world and be swept along with popular use cases, or whether we delve further and create use cases which are impactful to ourselves?
A Journey in Writing (and Imperfection)
This series is as much an exploration of ideas as it is an experiment in discipline. Writing doesn’t always come easily to me. The realities of running a fast-paced tech company, compounded by the chaos of ADHD and dyslexia, often pull me in many directions. Yet, I believe in the power of practice. Writing is a muscle I want to strengthen — not just to share my thoughts now but perhaps to craft a book one day or simply to spark meaningful conversations.
So, here’s my promise: I will endeavour to write more often, to share ideas, discoveries, and questions that excite me. Some posts will be polished; others might be messy. But they will all come from a place of genuine curiosity and passion. If you subscribe, you’ll be the first to know when I publish something new. And if you leave a comment or message, I’ll do my best to respond — and perhaps even explore your questions in future posts.
Let’s embark on this journey together. To the stars and beyond.
Ad Astra!
